Is there a main reason you don’t like match play here? Success throughout the year equating to a better seed for a golf March Madness sounds awesome to me. Big fan of the series please keep them coming.
1) Television Product- As the bracket dwindles, there are less balls in the air and potential for blowouts. Historically Tour TV ratings have suffered in individual match play formats.
2) Variability- The No. 1 player in the world can lose to the No. 200 player in the world on any given day. Match play would not define the best player of the season, if that is end concept. Players nor the Tour want match play here as they don’t want a fluke winner.
Match play works best in a team format, such as the Ryder Cup and College National Championships. Team, partner, and mixed events are where match play can shine in professional golf
That makes sense. I was thinking about WGC-Dell and more so success of YouTube Golf for individual match play. For the latter, it does make a huge difference they edit the down time out to keep balls in the air. Thanks
